Community and Advertising Guidelines
Last updated: October 2, 2026
PromoVote is not launched yet. These are the rules we plan to apply when it launches, so creators, developers, brands and viewers know what to expect from day one. On PromoVote, creators, game developers and brands will post short promos (10 to 45 seconds) with a link. A real person will review every promo before it goes live, and viewers will discover, save, skip and vote. We may update these rules before and after launch.
1. Our principles
- Promos are content. They should be honest, clear and worth watching.
- Real people, real signals. Votes and feedback only matter if they are honest.
- Safe for a general adult audience. PromoVote is for people 18 and older, and promos must still be suitable for a broad audience.
2. Prohibited content
These are never allowed in promos, links, profiles or comments:
- Scams and fraud: phishing, fake giveaways, "get rich quick" schemes, pyramid or multi-level marketing schemes, fake products or counterfeits.
- Malware and harmful software: links to malware, spyware, cracked software, cheats that break other games' terms, or anything that harms devices or accounts.
- Adult content: nudity, sexual content, sexual services, or sexually suggestive promos.
- Weapons: firearms, ammunition, explosives, weapon parts, or instructions to make weapons. Weapons shown as part of a video game's normal gameplay can be fine, as long as the promo is not graphic or gratuitous.
- Drugs: illegal drugs, recreational drugs, drug paraphernalia, or promotion of misuse of legal substances.
- Gambling: real-money gambling, betting, casinos, lotteries, loot box or skin gambling sites, and sweepstakes that require payment.
- Political and issue ads: ads about candidates, parties, elections, ballot measures, legislation, or social or political issues.
- Hate: content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, serious disease, age or immigration status.
- Harassment and bullying: threats, targeted insults, doxxing, or encouraging others to harass someone.
- Violence and dangerous acts: graphic violence or gore, glorifying violence or terrorism, self-harm, or dangerous challenges.
- Copyright and trademark infringement: footage, music, art or brands you do not own or have permission to use. See our Copyright Policy.
- Misleading claims: see section 4.
- Illegal content or content that promotes illegal activity, and anything involving minors in a sexual or exploitative way (which we report to the authorities).
- Privacy violations: sharing someone else's personal information without permission.
3. Restricted categories (closed for now)
Some categories are legal in some places but need extra checks, licenses or age controls. At launch, these categories are closed and promos in them will be rejected:
- Alcohol and tobacco or vaping
- Gambling and games of chance with real-money value
- Crypto, NFTs, trading and other financial products or services
- Health, medical, supplements and weight loss
- Dating and relationship services
- Political and social issue content
We may open some of these later with clear rules. We will update this page before we do.
4. Honest promos and links
- Show what you are actually offering. Gameplay in a game trailer should reflect the real game, or be clearly labeled (for example "pre-alpha footage" or "cinematic, not gameplay").
- Do not make claims you cannot back up, including fake reviews, fake awards, fake follower counts or fake "limited time" pressure.
- Prices, release dates, platforms and free or paid status must be accurate.
- Your link must go where you say it goes, work properly, and not redirect to different content after review.
- You must own or be authorized to promote the channel, game, product or brand in your promo.
5. Ad labeling and transparency
- Every promo will be clearly labeled as a promo, and will show who posted it.
- Where the law requires it (for example, under the EU Digital Services Act), we will also show who paid for a promo if that is different from the poster, and the main reasons a promo is shown to you.
- Creators must also follow advertising disclosure rules that apply to them, such as the US FTC Endorsement Guides, and disclose any paid relationship with a brand they promote.
- We will not use sensitive data (such as health, religion or sexual orientation) to target promos.
6. No fake engagement
- No bots, fake accounts, multiple accounts, vote rings, click farms, or paid or traded votes, views, saves or follows.
- Do not ask people to vote a certain way, and do not coordinate groups to push a promo up or down.
- Do not use PromoVote to buy or sell followers or subscribers on any platform.
- We filter invalid activity and show creators how many views were removed. Accounts involved in fake engagement may be removed and their results reset.
7. Votes, reviews and rewards
- No reward for follows or subscribes. PromoVote will never reward viewers for following or subscribing to anyone, on PromoVote or on YouTube, Twitch, Kick, TikTok, Instagram, Steam or any other platform. Creators may not offer such rewards on PromoVote either.
- No reward for votes. Nobody may offer or receive anything of value in exchange for a vote, a positive rating, or specific feedback.
- Points have no cash value. Points and Scout Score are reputation only. They are earned by honest participation, not by how you vote, and cannot be exchanged for money or goods.
- Honest feedback only. Following the US FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (16 CFR Part 465), we will not allow incentives that are conditioned, directly or indirectly, on a review or vote expressing a particular sentiment, and we will not suppress honest negative feedback.
8. Creator offers and perks
Creators may choose to share perks with the community, such as Steam keys, beta invites or discount codes. These offers are optional and must follow these rules:
- An offer is never tied to a vote, rating, review, follow or subscribe. Everyone eligible can get it, whatever they vote or even if they skip.
- The creator is responsible for the offer: it must be real, have the stated value, include clear terms (quantity, regions, expiry), and be delivered as promised.
- Offers must not be a lottery, raffle or sweepstakes that requires payment or other consideration, and must follow the law where they are offered.
- Promos with offers are labeled so viewers know a perk is included.
9. Community behavior
- Be respectful. Criticize promos, not people.
- No spam, self-promotion in comments, or misleading links.
- Do not impersonate other creators, studios, brands or PromoVote staff.
- Do not share personal information about others.
10. Human review
- Every promo and its link will be reviewed by a real person before it goes live. Automated tools may help (for example, to scan links for malware), but a human makes the approval decision.
- A promo can be approved, rejected, or sent back with a request for changes. We will tell you which rule applies.
- Approval does not mean we endorse the product or that the promo is free of legal problems. You remain responsible for your content.
- We may review a promo again at any time, for example after a report or if the linked page changes.
11. Reporting and enforcement
- Anyone will be able to report a promo, profile or comment from inside the product. Until then, email hello@promovote.com.
- Depending on how serious the issue is, we may remove content, limit its reach, remove offers, reset votes or points, suspend or close accounts, and in serious cases report to the authorities.
- When we act on your content or account, we will tell you what we did and why (a "statement of reasons"), unless the law or safety reasons prevent it.
- Repeated or severe violations, including repeated copyright infringement, lead to permanent removal.
12. Appeals
If you think we made a mistake, you can appeal. When the product launches, appeals will be available from the notice we send you. Until then, email hello@promovote.com with the subject line "Appeal". A person will review your appeal again (where possible, someone other than the original reviewer), and we will tell you the result. Where the law gives you other options (for example, out-of-court dispute settlement bodies in the EU), we will explain them in our decision.
